Valentine’s Day Traditions

Happy Valentine’s Day for all you lovers out there. My wife and I learned early in our relationship that dining out on Valentine’s Day is near impossible. The problem seems worse than on New Year’s Eve. Unlike other holidays, Valentine’s Day is more intimate, more for couples than big gatherings and private parties. It has to be the number one day of the year for dinner receipts at restaurants.

We stay in and have a special meal. I remember the year that we had the $25 Amana rib eye steaks on the grill. There was the year that I jokingly told my wife I was going to make her a heart shaped lasagna. She laughed, and the challenge was on. All day I had to figure out how I was going to pull this off. Ended up making a full pan of lasagna and cutting two hearts out of the center. The last few years has been our annual Fondu for Two. Even after adopting our first child, he sat in the high chair while mom and dad fondu’ed the night away. It’s a good think we only do it once a year. After a night of fondu, it’s hard to move.
