Who Wins the Cascade vs. Electrasol Battle?

cascade.jpgUntil recently, I always thought of Cascade and Electrasol dishwasher detergent as fairly interchangeable. To be quite honest, I didn’t really spend that much time thinking about it. I mean, they’re both “big names,” how different could dishwasher detergent be, right? When it was on my list, I’d buy whichever had the best sale price at that time. That was until I was shipped a bottle of each to do a side-by-side comparison recently.

Over the course of two months or so, completely finishing each bottle I was sent, I put them through their paces … washing varying loads with each, everyday dishes, pots and pans, silverware, plastic cups and Tupperware, noting how each handled the different items. Heavy loads. Light loads.  I did it all.

For the most part, no matter the item, they each held their own, cleaning the items pretty well every time. Until we hit Tupperware and plastic cups. Believe it or not, the Electrasol left white spots on my Tupperware and plastic cups, whereas the Cascade didn’t. That was enough for me, now a newly confirmed Cascade user.

We are Cascade users, but live in a “hard water” area. Several years ago an additive called Lemi Shine was recommended. For our situation, combining the two gives unbelievable results.

On a side note, amounts of detergents recommended by manufactures is sometimes very …. generous. Users should experiment with lesser amounts to find out what works best for them.
